Alfrid K. Bustanov is a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Amsterdam and TAIF professor of History of Islamic Peoples of Russia at the European University in St Petersburg. He teaches in the International MA programme of the European University in St Petersburg. He authored a series of articles and a monograph on Islamic book culture in Western Siberia (in Russian). Together with Professor Michael Kemper he edited a biographical dictionary of Daghestani Muslim scholars and a volume on Islamic Russian sociolect. His doctoral thesis on the history of Soviet Oriental Studies in Leningrad and Alma-Ata is also in print. Bustanov’s current research project is centered on intellectual life of Soviet Muslims in Inner Russia.
