Jan Just Witkam

Professor Dr Jan Just Witkam is Emeritus Professor of Codicology and Paleography of the Islamic World, at the Faculty of Humanities at Leiden University, and a well-published scholar and former curator of the Oriental Collection of Leiden University Library. Among his numerous publications are: Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje, Mekka in de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw. Besides his university carreer, Professor Witkam was - among other things - the founder and editor of the journal Manuscripts of the Middle East, Leiden; co-founder of the facsimile series Manuscripta Indonesica, Leiden; member executive board, Scaliger Institute, Leiden University; conseil scientifique, Bibliothèque universitaire de langues et cultures (BULAC); secretary at the Foundation Oosters Instituut, Leiden; and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Islamic Manuscripts (Leiden: E.J. Brill).
